Free Medicine for Diabetes

June 29, 2017

The endocrinologist I work with, Dr. Miya Allen, came back from the American Diabetes Association conference last week and gave us some great news! There is an organization that is giving away 10 million dollars’ worth of free diabetes medicine for the next year. Yes, free!

The medicines are metformin, pioglitazone (Actos) and glipizide. They will be free to anyone with a prescription for these medicines and they can receive these three medications for free for a year.

People must sign up online before September; however, they will close the enrollment if the money runs out before that time. The organization is called Blink Health.

According to their website:

“Blink Health is a free service on a mission to lower prescription drug prices for all Americans. Blink’s free website and mobile app offers savings of up to 95 percent on over 15,000 different medications. We think there is no better way to show our commitment to our mission than to invest in programs that will directly help Americans afford the life-saving medications they need. Too many Americans cannot afford their common diabetes medications, so this summer Blink Health is giving them away for free.”

So if you or any friends or family are having a hard time paying for their diabetes medicine this could be a great resource for them.
